this august i gave a lecture, demonstration, and tasting on HERBACIOUS COCKTAILS. i spoke in front of 180 guests for 1 1/2 hours, and had to actually use a mic! i forgot what a rush being on stage was… i just love that energy! tickets to the annual HERB DAY EVENT to benefit HILLHOLD MUSEUM always sell out… so the crowd is eager to learn and have fun. i demonstrated how to make 4 different cocktails and one mocktail, based on the work of medieval astrology nicholas culpeper.

of course, intoxicated zodiac made the favors to celebrate the event. i created a special herb day cocktail that was printed on one side of the glass with the museum’s logo printed on the other. they were used as centerpieces.

this annual event is hoity toity… i asked someone their name and they said berkley. i said, oh what an unusual first name. she replied, no, i’m a berkley (as in, last names are what count here.) definitely a blue blood event! i had such a blast, thank you for having me HILLHOLD MUSEUM.

that’s me, picking the winner of the door prize with my mom sitting on my right… hi mom!

Thanks to christopher drummond’s natural beauty blog, ALL REAL BEAUTY, for noticing that we are “More Than Just a Candle!” And we noticed that his blog is an incredible resource for the scoop on natural products. wanna know what all those fancy ingredients listed in your mascara really mean? or what exactly a paraben is? if so, this blog is a MUST-READ!!!
VIA ALL REAL BEAUTY:
“Ever think that a candle was just a candle? Well we are here to prove you wrong. Just when you think there is nothing special about a candle, in walks Intoxicated Zodiac. More specifically, they have a line called “Celestial Cocktail Candles”. (I just realized that I said “candles” about 50 times in that last paragraph…)
“Interesting” you say?
Each candle is made for a specific sign in the zodiac. According to the website, “Each sign has an exclusive scent which is associated with it’s unique Cocktail recipe. The recipes utilize plants, herbs and flowers connected with each individual sign. Imagine inhaling a scent formulated specially for you… therapeutic, supportive, cleansing–Celestial Cocktail Aromatherapy! Heal thyself with the ancient principles of Cocktail Astrology.”
The candles are green (soy based, clean burning, non bleached wick….) and are only $32….
Clean candles like these are the way to go….paraffin based candles are bad to inhale, and have known toxins in them. With 2011 right around the corner, let’s start the year out as clean and toxin free as possible! Plus, you’re supporting a boutique brand, which is all the rage for the new year…”

cheers to EXAMINER.COM’s jackie silver, for toasting our SHOT GLASS CANDLES!
VIA EXAMINER:
“Based on Medieval Herbal Astrology, plants have signs like people, according to “mixologist” and artist Gwen Sutherland Kaiser, founder of Intoxicated Zodiac, a company that offers “Cocktail-inspired Shot Glass Candles” based on Astrology. Each candle’s Zodiac sign has an exclusive scent which is associated with its unique cocktail recipe.
Kaiser created a cocktail recipe and astrological illustration for each sign. Her experience as a Manhattan bartender, New York product designer and life-long astrology buff led her to create Intoxicated Zodiac, Astrology of the Cocktail. Intoxicated Zodiac blends, shakes and serves up those famous bar scene lines with a twist… “What’s your sign? Can I buy you a drink? C’mon baby light my fire!” Her favorite line these days is, “do you have Martini rising?”
The recipes use plants, herbs and flowers associated with each individual sign. In Medieval times, those who could not afford traditional medicine cured themselves with the supportive and nurturing plants of their sun sign. Today, this topic is enjoying renewed interest as people realize the enormous healing potential of botanicals. This uncommon collection has been formulated using the work of renowned herbalist, Nicholas Culpeper, as a guide. In his book, Heal Thyself, Culpeper identified the Zodiac sign of each and every plant he found. This book is still in print today, 300 years later.
The Shot Glass Candle retails for $14 and is available in New York at Henri Bendel through the holidays. They can be purchased year-round at IntoxicatedZodiac.com.”
