The new book, American bar, is a perfect gift for any barkeep – novice or veteran. A beautiful bible of classic libations, it’s factual content is of encyclopedic quality, mixed with a bar spoon of humor and served with a shot of educated opinion.
The third book by charles Schumann, owner of SCHUMANN’S in munich, wears a handsome burgundy brown cover, sans dust jacket. I am so not a fan of dust jackets… First thing I do when I get a new book, is take them off! The pages are gilded gold; and beautifully quirky illustrations float elegantly amongst well designed text.
Inside you’ll find several hundred classic drink recipes, organized alphabetically. There is a comprehensive exclamation on every type of spirit including the origin of, and the major contempory brands therein. Any bar term remotely in use today is also well defined. An excellent addition to any tippler’s library.
